News & Events | Fundraising show in rural villages in Cambodia

Since the low season (off season) has now arrived there are no visitors to see the fundraising show (Khmer traditional dancing) performed by the children in the orphanage. We have therefore decided to take the children to do the fundraising show throughout Cambodia instead. We will continue to do this until the next high season comes in October/November because we depend wholly on donations.

We have started to do the fundraising show in rural villages around Siem Reap first. This is a terrible situation for ACODO.  Without tourists to visit the fundraising show and make donations we are forced to go and do fundraising in the far villages to obtain extra donations from the local people. We usually don’t receive sufficient rice or large donations, but it is enough for us to survive on.

The disabled, who have lost their physical ability and are not able to help themselves, are also being supported by ACODO. They were scorned and mocked in the society, often being treated as useless. After witnessing these situations, ACODO wanted to assist them to become valued members of society; recognized for their useful contribution and ability to join other citizens in developing their country. They have the same civil rights. Currently they are being educated in life skills and vocational skills as are all other orphans in ACODO. Additionally, they are taught dancing, weaving, sewing, wood & stone sculpture, painting and tragedy performance. We aim to offer an education to 10 disabled children who are able to live and study all day in ACODO.
